About iCombat

I decided to make iCombat as an homage to the first games I ever really ever got addicted to, the classic arcade tank shooters like Combat and Tank pong.  I had owned the Atari 2600 in the early 80’s (yes about 10 yrs later than everyone else) and remember the simple graphics and 2 player games as being some of the best I ever played.  For some reason I have had a tank theme interest ever since, and so I thought it would be cool to bring the old school game play, updated with better sound and graphics for the iPhone, to a new generation so that they could experience one of the great gaming classics.

iCombat is also my first attempt at developing a game for the iPhone.  By developing I specifically mean producing, where I am determining every aspect of the game but using developers abroad to execute the code behind my idea. With no relevant experience in programming, game or graphic design, I set out to develop iCombat. This blog is about my experience and the lessons that I learned taking iCombat from its initial stages as a vague idea through design, execution and ultimately the App store launch. There are many nuances, a few set backs, and many mistakes that I have made along the way but also many solutions that have presented themselves. My blog is here to highlight these to hopefully help others with ideas realize that with little or no experience, but armed with a little bit of will, and a first step, it can be done.

About The App Farmtm

In late 2008 we began to see certain trends emerging in mobile app development and decided to form a branded iPhone app development business. Since then we have helped companies define their mobile strategy and build applications for the iPhone.  iCombat was a personal project I decided to develop on the side to show that creating a game on your own is possible. The App Farm is always interested in new projects so please visit our site today to see some of our portfolio as well as other games in development.

Hey, nice job with the blog. Cool that you're documenting the experiment to help others. We wrote the PhotoKast document, but a blog is a great way to keep the material fresh. Best of luck
